System NPI Engineer – AI/GPU Server Hardware (Remote, Part-Time Contract)[1716]
If you are a practical, curious engineer who likes getting your hands on real hardware, can work without supervision, and wants to help bring AI server systems to market, we want to hear from you.
US Job Finders is searching for a:
System NPI Engineer – AI/GPU Server Hardware (Remote, Part-Time Contract)
Location: Remote
Employment Type: Part-Time Contract (project-based)
Experience Required: Capability over years. Hands-on experience with server or computer hardware and Linux; about 2+ years preferred
Working Hours: Flexible and results-based; schedule agreed upon hire
Language Requirement: English
About the Role
US Job Finders is seeking a practical, hands-on System NPI (New Product Introduction) Engineer to support an early-stage AI infrastructure research and engineering company. The company designs server and accelerated (AI/GPU) hardware systems and needs an engineer who can help move them from early prototype builds toward repeatable, high-yield production.
This is a remote-first, part-time, project-based contract. You will work from your home office with the founder and manufacturing and integration partners, reviewing designs, writing test specifications, debugging early builds, tracking yield, and documenting what you learn. The first project is expected to be small and the scope may grow, so the person we hire will help shape how the company works with remote engineers.
We are not looking for the fastest or most credentialed engineer. We are looking for someone who is solid, flexible, and not intimidated by hard problems. You should have good conceptual knowledge of how servers and GPU systems fit together, be comfortable diagnosing problems across hardware, firmware, and software, and be able to run with the work without needing your hand held. Formal certifications are not required, and candidates with non-traditional backgrounds are welcome if they can show what they can do.
Key Responsibilities
Test & Design-for-X (DFx)
Take ownership of system test specifications for server and AI/GPU hardware.
Contribute to Design-for-Manufacture (DFM) and Design-for-Test (DFT) practices.
Review 3D blueprints and engineering designs and write clear assembly and test instructions.
Early Build Debugging
Work directly with integration partners to troubleshoot, isolate, and resolve hardware, firmware, and system software failures on early builds.
Root-cause problems that cross hardware, firmware, and software layers, including compute, memory, networking, power delivery, and cooling.
Use Linux, BMC interfaces, and hardware diagnostic utilities to isolate failures on remote systems.
Factory Yield & Quality
Track and calculate system yield and quality metrics, including First Pass Yield.
Analyze test data and factory defects, and recommend and drive corrective actions to stabilize the manufacturing line.
Monitor how long it takes to assemble and test a complete system and look for ways to shorten it.
Remote Execution & Automation
Manage technical documentation, data analysis, and cross-functional communication from your home office.
Use scripting and AI tools to speed up analysis, reporting, and documentation.
Keep the founder informed with clear, honest updates on progress, problems, and risks.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Solid conceptual knowledge of servers and computer hardware, including compute, memory, storage, networking, power, and cooling.
Working comfort with Linux and the command line for troubleshooting and diagnostics.
Logical, structured approach to root-causing problems that span hardware, firmware, and software.
Ability to learn new tools and systems quickly and to work independently with little direction.
Clear communication in English, in writing and on calls, with a direct, honest style.
Flexible and resilient. You handle direct feedback well and do not take technical disagreements personally.
Reliable computer and internet connection for remote work.
Nice to Have
Experience taking a server or GPU/AI-accelerated system from prototype to mass production.
Experience with BMC interfaces, IPMItool, OpenBMC, and hardware stress-testing utilities.
Familiarity with NVIDIA CUDA tools (such as nvidia-smi) or AMD ROCm for monitoring GPU health.
Python or Bash scripting, and experience using AI coding assistants or automation tools in daily work.
Experience tracking First Pass Yield, defect data, or factory quality metrics.
Experience working with overseas manufacturing or integration partners.
Certifications such as CompTIA Linux+, LPIC, Cisco CCNA, or CCNP (helpful, not required).
Willingness to travel to a factory or integration site later if the project requires hands-on, in-person work.
Technology & Systems
Linux (Ubuntu or RHEL)
IPMItool, OpenBMC, and standard hardware diagnostic and stress-testing utilities
Python or Bash for scripting
NVIDIA CUDA tools (nvidia-smi) or AMD ROCm
AI coding assistants and automation tools
The final tool stack has not been set. If you do not know every tool above but you can show strong fundamentals and a record of picking up new ones, we want to hear from you.
Working Hours
Flexible and results-based. There is no fixed shift. You will agree on a working rhythm after you are hired, and you will be available for scheduled calls with the founder and manufacturing partners. This is a part-time remote contract position. Expected weekly hours will be discussed and agreed with the client before the engagement begins.
Who You Are
Direct and no-nonsense: you focus on solving problems and building hardware, and you keep communication honest and free of office politics.
Thick-skinned and resilient: you take feedback well and stay focused on fixing the machine.
Easy to work with: you stay constructive and collaborative under pressure.
Self-driven: you take full ownership and deliver results without being micro-managed.
What We Offer
Remote, part-time, project-based contract work with an AI infrastructure company
Competitive hourly compensation based on experience, with room for a higher rate for strong results
Direct access to the founder and a real voice in how the work gets done
Flexible working hours
The chance to continue and expand the engagement as projects grow
Reasonable work equipment needs can be discussed with the client
What Success Looks Like
Higher First Pass Yield, with more systems passing factory tests the first time and less rework.
Early prototype builds and production runs hit their scheduled milestones.
Hardware, firmware, and software failures are found, root-caused, and closed quickly.
The time to assemble and test a complete system goes down.
Test specs, documentation, and data analysis are clear and organized, so the founder always knows where things stand.
The founder can hand off a problem and trust that it is handled.
